Directions
- by car:
Regensburg is conveniently located at the interchange of the highways
A3 and A93. You can get exact driving directions using
Google Maps.
Keep in mind: Most part of the old town in Regensburg is closed for traffic; furthermore,
parking space is very limited in the inner city. In case your hotel does not have its own parking
lot, further information about parking possibilities is available at
this webpage of the Regensburg
municipality (unfortunately, this service is offered in German only).
Also, you should know that school vacations in Bavaria start on August 1st. Therefore, you have to
anticipate increased traffic on the highways. In case you arrive late (e.g. because of traffic jams),
the route to the church is shown below.
- by train:
Regensburg lies on the ICE route Dortmund - Köln - Bonn -
Frankfurt - Nürnberg - Passau - Linz - Wien and hence can easily be reached by train.
Train tickets can be booked at the counter or
online at most 90 days in advance.
To use one of the several saving fares, it is recommend to book early.
- by plane:
The closest international airport is Munich Airport (MUC).
US Airways offers direct flights from Philadelphia, Lufthansa flights from New York
(Newark and JFK).
To get from the airport to Regensburg, you can either take a
bus
from Munich Airport to Freising and then transfer onto a
train to Regensburg
(approx. 20 €), or let use the Airportliner
to be brought directly to your hotel (approx. 30 €/person, if several people have the same
destination).
The easiest way to get from the old town to the church is to walk over the
"Steinerne Brücke" (Stone Bridge, see also
here). In case you want to
reach the church by car, e.g. because of running late, here are some driving directions:
From highway A3, change onto highway A93 (toward "Weiden") at interchange "Kreuz Regensburg".
Take the exit "Regensburg-Pfaffenstein" and then follow the route shown on the map below
(C marks our wedding church, B a parking lot close-by).
